2.4 Refusal and withdrawal of consent

Patients may refuse consent. Patients may withdraw consent at any time after giving it, including after signing a consent form. This should be made clear to the patient at the outset. If it is suspected that a patient is refusing consent due to mental health issues, specialist advice should be sought with consideration that the patient may treated within the terms of either the Mental Health Act (section 4) or the Adults with Incapacity Act (section 3).
