First line

IV piperacillin/tazobactam
and IV gentamicin

Suspected staphylococcal infection (e.g. line-related sepsis, skin/soft tissue infection) OR known MRSA positive:
add IV vancomycin / IV teicoplanin

Penicillin allergy

IV vancomycin
and IV gentamicin 

TOTAL duration
  • With clinical improvement, and on advice from Paediatric Consultant and/or Microbiology Consultant.
Comments
  • If haematology/oncology patient, discuss with appropriate specialist and seek local microbiology advice.
