Neonatal community outreach team (NCOT)

Warning

Criteria for NCOT referral:

  • Baby’s CGA above 34 weeks gestation
  • Medically stable
  • Temperature stability in open cot
  • No significant weight loss and adequately feeding – nasogastric / breastfeeding / bottle feeding and/or combined feeding
  • Weight above 1.6kg
  • Parents have been educated with necessary skills

Types of referral considered:

In-patient referrals:

  • Complex babies who need continuity of care e.g. congenital anomalies with palliative care needs
  • Baby who needs nasogastric tube (NGT) feeding support until full oral feeding is established
  • Oxygen dependent babies
  • Babies with neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) who are on a stable reducing regimen
  • Babies whose families need reassurance and short term support (please discuss with community band 7)
  • Babies who require feeding, nutrition and growth monitoring
  • Babies who require home phototherapy

Community referrals:

  • Early jaundice
  • Large weight loss (more than 13% from birth weight)
